Welcome to De Hood

De Hood Boxing Centre & Community Hub is a boxing club and community development organisation located in the Manor & Castle Ward of Sheffield but serving the whole of the City.

We are dedicated to changing lives and improving communities through our work with children & adults.

De Hood Boxing Centre & Community Hub is a registered charity No: 1186218 and a company limited by guarantee No: CEO19498 with a board of trustee directors.

The club was founded in 2012 by Head Boxing Coach, Reagan Denton, a former Professional Boxer, in response to a recognised need for activities to engage young people at risk of becoming involved in crime & anti-social behaviour.

20 dedicated volunteers currently give 400 hours a week or 19,000 hours a year to the project with an in-kind value of over £100,000 a year. (based on UK Living Wage)

De Hood operates from, and has overall control of, a boxing gym and community fitness facilities in a former primary school building in the eastern part of the City of Sheffield by agreement with of the Local Authority Sheffield City Council.

De Hood currently has over 500 members and is open to people of all ages and abilities with a full commitment to inclusivity, accessibility and equality.

Boxing Hall

Our large  fully equipped boxing hall has three boxing rings (one professional sized 22ft ring and two smaller training rings).

We also have 24 hanging punchbags along with wall mounted punch balls and a fully matted circuit track around the hall.

In this space we can offer you boxercise which includes, running, bench presses, circuit training, bag work and other activity tailored to your needs.

You are welcome to visit us to see the sessions in operation which are all fully supervised by our trained and qualified team of dedicated volunteers.

Our founder and head coach Reagan Denton personally supervises the training of 20 young amateur boxers who are registered or ‘carded’ with England Boxing  to compete at amateur level in local, regional and national competitions for honours at different weights. We aim to produce a number of future Champions at De Hood and we already have an impressive track record of achievement to our name. If you or your child is interested in training for competition level amateur boxing, you are welcome to get in touch for more details.

Community Hub

At De Hood Boxing Centre & Community Hub, we pride ourselves on our community activity, where alongside our health & fitness facilities we offer benefits advice, healthy eating advice and an active recovery group for people who are recovering from drugs & alcohol.

We use participation in health, fitness and exercise as tools to engage children and young people in positive activity to prevent the risk of them becoming involved in crime, drugs, antisocial behaviour or becoming ‘groomed’ by gangs operating the street-based drugs trade and using young people as ‘couriers’ frequently enforced by violence involving knives and guns.

We have been extremely successful  in winning the support of local agencies and organisations in this mission including, The South Yorkshire Police & Crime Commissioner, The South Yorkshire Community Foundation, Sheffield City Council, The National Lottery Community Foundation, The Lady Neil Trust, The Westfield Health Foundation, The Sheffield City Trust, along with our local South Yorkshire Police neighbourhood Policing team  and our local Sheffield City Councillors for the Manor Castle Ward, Cllr Ann Murphy, Cllr Sioned Mair-Richards, Cllr Terry Fox (Leader of Sheffield City Council) who are backing our efforts to change lives and communities for the better.
